SLR Sentry 6 Gas Block does the barrel need to be dimpled

I have the Sentry 6 on a Faxon 16' GUNNER barrel and am curious if its absolutely necessary to dimple the barrel? Also, do you offer any sort of MIL, LEO, or First Responder discount?
